From the first step involved with the booking we are very pleased. My wife and I were looking for somewhere to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday away from all the busy life back in PA. It was a great choice. Only 1 thing, the pictures do not do this perfect, beautiful, home the right justice. You have to experience it live. We light a fire every night, perfect start to every evening. Cooked in twice, and visited two of the local restaurants that were both amazing, over our four night stay. Home is literally a walk to town and all the shopping you could want. 4 miles to the ferry to Shelter Island, and approximately 4-5 miles from East Hampton, and also Bridge Hampton. The home is very charming and very clean and neat. I will be back shortly for sure.

House was charming and had a vintage feel to it - claw foot bath tubs and original wood floors. It was clean and in good order with fresh toiletries waiting in the bathrooms and a bottle of wine in the fridge for us. House is at end of a long shared driveway, however we did not see any other cars on driveway for the duration of our stay. Ferry Road is quite busy with cars and trucks yet you could not hear the cars from the house which is set way back. Although one reviewer said she let her grandchild walk to town from house, I felt the road was too busy and there was no sidewalk for safety. It is a very quick/easy car ride to the restaurants and shops, however, and driving was not a problem. House has lots of beautiful lawns and a hammock and screened in porch to lounge on. It was a really nice stay.

This home is the way the Hamptons were 40 years ago, when Truman Capote got smashed at the Driver's Seat in Southampton and wrapped his car around a tree in Sagaponack, when James Joyce and Wilfred Sheed and Willie Morris got hammered at Bobby Van's in winter, when Sag Harbor was still a rough town. Wood floors, wicker furniture, antiques, some beautiful watercolors, a huge yard with a picnic table and crickets and blue jays and chickadees and peace (and an outdoor shower). There's no "media room" - talk, cook, read, play cards and backgammon, listen to WLNG. There's no swimming pool - you're on Long Island - GO TO THE BLOODY BEACH - THAT'S WHY YOU'RE HERE. This is the kind of cool that's rapidly disappearing from the East End - savor it while you still can. A great evening ritual here is to pop over to Long Beach (30 seconds by car), have a drink, and watch the sun set over Peconic Bay, then come home to boil your lobster and potatoes.

I've been taught that nothing's perfect. But [this] wonderful old house comes as close as I can imagine. Beautifully renovated without sacrificing its 19th-century charm, superbly located between the town and Long Beach, surrounded by large greensward and woods -- this place was heaven for me, loved ones, and friends. The photos only begin to convey its loveliness. I hope to return as often as I can.

Sadly, we only spent 2 nights in this wonderful old home! It is definitely a place on our list of return visits. The house has all the charm we were hoping for...we felt as if we were stepping back in time. Our first visit to Long Island was made perfect by the Whaler's Dream House!

Rented the house to stay with my parents from out of town in October. Charming house right north of Sag Harbor, great location and access to sit by the Bay. Old home that has a ton of character, super super quiet so bring a book and wine 3 bedrooms upstairs and small daybed downstairs, 1 full bathroom upstairs and 1 full downstairs. Great screened-in porch with rockers as well as chairs/picnic table in backyard. Didn't walk into town because Ferry Rd gets so dark. Great local farmers markets so fun to cook at home.

I was looking for a house to celebrate my mother's birthday and happened on this listing on VRBO. We really liked the location and the rustic feel of the house. Its in Sag Harbor which seems to have a different vibe then the rest of the Hamptons towns (calmer and more sophisticated). When we arrived on the property we quickly realized that the pictures did not do it justice. it is perfect, grown in, quite, with a beautiful bucolic path to the water. The house itself was a dream, although you have to want to feel like you are coming home and not to a hotel. That said everything was in place. Nile even left a bottle of champagne for us to toast my mother. If you grew up spending summers in your parents old beautiful Victorian house on the water and that is a feeling that you want to revisit- rent this house. Also, we have 2 dogs that were so happy to run around all weekend and go swimming in the bay. Thank you again for a great time.

My husband and I have been renting this wonderful home in the winter for 16 years and have occasionally rented there in the summer, as well. I have to start by saying that we LOVE this house and property. It is old world charming, comfortable, inviting, and utterly peaceful inside and out. It is nicely and comfortably furnished and is supplied with every little thing that you would have in your own home, not just the usual basic rental fare. Despite it being an older house, everything works well and smoothly and the house is always delivered clean and feels welcoming. The owner is easy, fair and clear, and a pleasure to deal with. The surrounding area offers everything. The nearest village, Sag Harbor is charming and historical yet also offers updated, contemporary shops and good restaurants. The extended areas offer beaches, water sports - there is an international destination for windsurfers and kite boarders not far away at Lazy Point - surfing, roller blading, tennis, hiking - any outdoor activity one could think of. The house's location is very near, or perhaps part of, the set of towns known as the "Hamptons", which are attractive to people for their upscale shopping and restaurants and opportunity to spend time in a posh summer community. There are also small local restaurants to eat in, regular farmer's markets, beaches that are off the beaten path and are quiet and natural, wineries to visit, art galleries to view, movies both mainstream and independent and foreign and music concerts both small and large. Really, the area has something for everyone. I would recommend this rental wholeheartedly because the house is wonderful and the location offers all!
